한국-스페인전 본 에레라, "2002 월드컵, 역사상 가장 큰 절도"

[인터풋볼] 윤효용 기자=파리 생제르맹(PSG)의 미드필더 안데르 에레라가 2002 월드컵 한국과 스페인의 8강전을 비판했다.

에레라는 10일(한국시간) 자신의 SNS를 통해 한국과 스페인 경기를 보고 있는 영상을 올리며 "역사상 가장 큰 절도"라고 비판했다.

2002 한일 월드컵은 한국이 역사상 가장 좋은 성적을 거뒀던 월드컵이다. 조별 예선부터 폴란드, 포르투갈 등 강적을 꺾고 토너먼트에 진출했고, 16강에서 이탈리아, 8강에서 스페인을 꺾고 준결승에 진출하는 기염을 토했다. 비록 3, 4위 전에서 터키에 밀려 4위를 기록했지만 전국민을 하나로 모았던 역사적인 대회였다.

그러나 스페인 국민들에게는 좋지 않은 추억이었다. 가볍게 꺾을 거라고 생각했던 한국에 8강에서 덜미를 잡혔기 때문이다. 카시야스, 페르난도 이에로, 카를레스 푸욜, 호아킨 산체스, 후안 카를로스 발레론, 모리엔테스 등 화려한 멤버들과 함께 우승에 도전했기에 더욱 그랬다.

해당 경기는 오심 논란이 일기도 했다. 당시 연장전에 스페인이 득점에 성공했지만 이집트 부심이 오프사이드를 선언한 것. 이후 스페인은 득점에 실패했고, 연장 승부 끝에 한국에 무릎을 꿇었다.

최근 스페인 레전드 사비 에르난데스가 "한국전에서 심판이 불공정했다"며 비판한데 이어 에레라도 당시 경기를 지적했다.
