라리가 회장, "호날두 경우를 봐..이탈리아, 메시 가도 회복 안돼"

[OSEN=강필주 기자] 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)으로 큰 타격을 받은 이탈리아 축구가 리오넬 메시(33, 바르셀로나)가 가도 회복되기 힘들다는 주장이 나왔다. 

8일(한국시간) 영국 매체 '이브닝 스탠다드'에 따르면 하비에르 테바스 라리가 회장은 7일 세계 언론인과 가진 전화회의에서 "메시가 스페인에서 축구를 계속할지 말지는 모르겠다"면서 "메시가 스페인 축구를 떠나지는 않을 것이라 생각하지만 이탈리아 축구가 처한 위기에서 벗어날 수 있는 해결책은 아니다"라고 주장했다.

이탈리아 '라 가제타 델로 스포르트'는 이탈리아 세리에 A가 코로나19 사태로 입은 손실이 7억 유로에 달한다고 예상했다. 그러면서 인터밀란 전 회장의 주장대로 인터밀란이 메시를 영입하게 되면 세리에 A에 막대한 재정적 활력을 불어넣어 줄 수 있다고 주장했다. 

하지만 테바스 회장은 "이 글로벌 위기를 어떻게 보느냐에 따라 각국 상황은 다르다. 이탈리아 축구 부채 수준은 상당히 높다. 스페인, 분데스리가에 2배 수준"이라며 "분명한 해결책은 메시가 아니라는 것이다. 세리에 A는 다른 해결책을 찾으리라 본다. 각 구단마다 그 나름의 이야기가 있다"고 강조했다.

특히 테바스 회장은 2018년 크리스티아누 호날두(35, 유벤투스)가 레알 마드리드를 떠나 이탈리아로 간 것을 상기시켰다. 설사 메시가 바르셀로나를 떠난다 해도 사람들이 생각하는 것 만큼 라리가는 크게 달라지지 않을 것임을 강조한 것이다. 

그는 "물론 메시가 여기 있었으면 좋겠다. 하지만 메시가 스페인 축구에 있든 없든 크게 상관없다. 이미 호날두의 경우를 봐도 알 수 있다"면서 "자료를 제시하진 않겠다. 하지만 모두 시청률이 떨어질 것이라고 했지만 성장했다. 포르투갈에서조차 성장을 기록했다. 그런 선수 있으면 도움이 되지만 리그 성장에 꼭 필요한 것은 아니다"라고 강조했
