퍼디난드 회상, "바르사 제의 받았지만 떠날 수 없었어"

퍼디난드는 `BT스포르트`와 인터뷰에서 "2007-08시즌 당시 에이전트가 바르셀로나 구단과 이적에 대해 논의를 하고 있었다. 난 바르셀로나를 이끌고 있었던 프랑크 레이카르트 감독에게 이적에 대한 특별한 이야기를 하지 않았다. 하지만 레이카르트 감독은 나에게 자신의 감정을 숨기지 않았다"고 언급했다.

이어 퍼디난드는 "나는 바르셀로나와 준결승 1차전이 0-0으로 끝난 뒤 경기장 터널에서 레이카르트 감독과 이야기를 나눴다. 종종 잉글랜드가 아닌 해외 리그에서 뛰고 싶다고 밝힌 적이 있다. 하지만 맨유라는 훌륭한 팀을 찾은 것은 행운이었고 아마 내가 떠나는 것은 거의 불가능했을 것이다. 지금도 이 결정을 후회하지 않는다"고 덧붙였다.
