미국서 뛰는 일본 여자축구선수, 도쿄올림픽 성화봉송 거부

미국에서 뛰고 있는 일본 여자축구 대표 출신 선수가 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)에 대한 우려로 2020 도쿄올림픽 성화 봉송을 거부했다.

미국 여자프로축구 스카이블루FC 소속의 일본인 공격수 가와스미 나호미(35)는 23일 자신의 사회관계망서비스(SNS)를 통해 "도쿄올림픽 성화 봉송 주자에서 사퇴한다"고 밝혔다.

가와스미는 2011년 국제축구연맹(FIFA) 독일 여자월드컵에서 함께 우승을 일군 일본 대표팀 멤버들과 26일 후쿠시마현의 J빌리지에서 시작하는 일본 내 도쿄올림픽 성화봉송 제1 주자를 맡을 예정이었다.

가와스미는 성화봉송을 스스로 포기한 데 대해 현재 미국에 거주하기 때문에 일본으로 이동하는 데 따른 위험을 고려했다고 설명했다.

그는 "(코로나19에) 나 자신이 감염되거나 감염원이 되지 않도록 하기 위해, 팀과 팬들에게 폐를 끼치지 않기 위해 결정했다"면서 "조속한 종식과 여러분의 건강을 진심으로 기원한다"고 적었다.
