‘황희찬 부상 공백을 메워야 했는데….’
하네스 울프 전 함부르크 SV 감독이 함부르크 지휘봉을 잡았던 2018-2019시즌을 돌아 보며, 그 당시 황희찬의 부상 공백을 메우지 못한 것에 대한 패착을 아쉬워했다.

황희찬은 함부르크에서 뛰던 2018-2019시즌 2. 분데스리가 20경기에 나서 네 개의 공격 포인트(2골 2도움)를 기록했다. 득점이 많진 않았지만 특유의 피지컬로 저돌성 있게 수비를 밀어 붙이며 상대 팀에 위협을 가했다.
스스로 해결하지 못하더라도 어떤 형태로든 주변 공격수에게 도움을 주었던 것이다. 울프 감독은 황희찬의 그 점에 아쉬움을 표한 듯하다. 그렇지만 울프 감독은 아이러니하게도 함부르크에서 지도자 데뷔 후 가장 높은 승률(14승 5무 9패, 50%)을 기록했다. 울프 감독은 보루시아 도르트문트 2군과 슈투트가르트, 함부르크를 거쳐 현재 겡크에서 선수를 지도하고 있다.
