[스포츠서울 정다워기자]일본발(發) 나비효과가 아시아 무대를 삼킬 위기에 놓였다.

일본은 한국을 비롯해 중국, 유럽이 신종 코로나 바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 확산을 막기 위해 동분서주 하던 얼마 전까지도 가장 무감각한 태도로 상황을 관망하던 나라다. 2020 도쿄올림픽 개최를 강행하기 위한 무리수였는데 결국 이제서야 터질 게 터지는 분위기다. 올림픽 1년 연기가 확정된 후 일본은 본격적으로 질병 관리에 들어갔고, 최근 확진자가 급증하고 있다. 누적 확진자가 8일 현재 5165명으로 증가했고, 하루에 200~300명씩 늘어나고 있다. 아베 신조 일본 총리는 뒤늦게 도쿄를 비롯한 7개 지역에 긴급 사태를 선포했지만 “내가 책임진다고 해결되지 않는다”라며 방역에 대한 무책임한 태도로 일관하고 있다. 일본 내부에서는 검사자 수가 워낙 적어 실제로는 정부 발표보다 감염자가 훨씬 더 많을 것이라는 의견도 나오고 있다.

설상가상 지난 2월 한국을 방문해 수원 삼성과 아시아축구연맹 챔피언스리그(ACL) 조별리그 경기를 치른 빗셀 고베에서는 선수와 직원까지 확진 판정을 받았다. 집단 감염이 의심되는 상황이다. 현재 일본 분위기를 봐서는 다른 팀에서도 확진자가 나올 가능성이 충분해 보인다. 결국 일본 J리그는 5월 재개 계획을 백지화 하고 7월에 개막하는 것을 고려하는 것으로 알려졌다.

이대로면 ACL 강행은 사실상 불가능에 가깝다. J리그 팀들은 동아시아 조별리그 3개 조에 포함돼 있다. 국경을 오가는 클럽대항전은 감염의 원인이 될 수 있다. 섣불리 경기를 강행했다가는 자칫 일본으로 인해 코로나19가 동아시아 전역에 더 큰 확산을 불러올 수 있는 만큼 ACL 재개 시기도 늦춰질 수밖에 없다. 게다가 한국과 중국도 아직 코로나19가 진화되지 않았고, 이란이나 사우디아라비아, 아랍에미리트 등 서아시아 리그들도 코로나19로 인해 여전히 혼란에 빠져 있다. 자국 리그조차 언제 재개할지 알 수 없어 ACL은 고려 대상도 되지 못하는 분위기다. 아시아축구연맹의 독단적인 판단이 아니라 각 나라 리그, 구단과의 협의가 필요하기 때문에 중재안을 모으기 쉽지 않을 전망이다.

올시즌 ACL은 조별리그 1~2경기밖에 진행되지 않았다. 사실상 처음부터 시작하는 셈인데 6월을 넘겨 재개할 경우 12월 내로 마무리하는 것은 물리적으로 불가능에 가깝다. 그나마 조별리그를 단판으로 치르는 등의 방식으로 대회를 축소하는 안이 남아 있을 뿐이다. 한 축구 관계자는 “정상적으로 ACL을 소화하기는 쉽지 않을 것으로 보인다. 코로나19에 대처하는 각 나라 상황이 상이하기 때문에 더 지켜봐야 할 것 같다. 일본이 가장 심각하기 때문에 그 쪽이 최대 변수가 될 것 같다”라는 의견을 내놨다.

한국프로야구 팬이라면 이 정도의 정보에도 바로 양현종(32)을 떠올린다.

"KBO리그에서 가장 인상적인 투수"라는 질문에 대한 답이면 더 확실해진다.

LG 트윈스 우투좌타 1루수 로베르토 라모스(26)는 8일 서울시 잠실구장에서 '2주간의 자가 격리'를 마친 뒤, 처음 취재진 앞에 섰다.

라모스는 "숙소 밖을 나가지 못해 답답했지만, 실내 훈련을 충실하게 했다. 또한, 전력분석팀에서 KBO리그 투수들에 관한 좋은 자료를 만들어줘 야구 공부를 했다"고 밝혔다.

취재진은 그에게 "가장 인상적인 투수가 누구인가"라고 물었다.

라모스는 "이름은 기억하지 못한다. 고글을 쓴 KIA 왼손 투수"라고 답했다. 통역은 물론이고, 취재진도 라모스가 말하는 인상적인 투수가 양현종이라는 걸 알았다.

이미 LG 전력분석팀은 라모스에게 양현종을 '최정상급 투수'라고 소개했다. 당연히 라모스는 더 주의 깊게 양현종의 영상 자료를 봤다.

라모스는 "좋은 투수라는 말을 들은 상태였다. 전체적으로 완벽한 투수라고 생각한다"고 말했다.

테일러 모터(31·키움 히어로즈)도 1일 취재진과의 '화상 인터뷰'에서 "좌완에 고글을 쓴 투수가 인상적이었다. 공이 워낙 좋아서 기억하고 있다"고 말했다.

실제로 양현종은 KBO리그 최고 투수로 꼽힌다.

양현종은 지난해 16승 8패 평균자책점 2.29로 활약했다. 평균자책점 부문에서는 1위를 차지했다.

2014년부터 2019년까지 매 시즌 170이닝 이상을 던질 정도로 자기 관리에 철저하다.

모든 구단이 새로운 외국인 선수에게 양현종을 '리그 최정상급 투수'라고 소개한다. 영상 등 자료를 본 선수들도 양현종을 '최고 투수'로 인정했다.

[OSEN=강필주 기자] 레인저스를 이끌고 있는 스티븐 제라드(40)가 현역 시절 토트넘 유니폼을 입었다면 어땠을까.

8일(한국시간) 영국 매체 '이브닝 스탠다드'는 토트넘이 제라드와 계약할 기회가 두 차례 있었지만 모두 실패했다고 전했다. 제라드는 피터 크라우치(39)가 진행하는 '백 오브 더 넷(Back of the Net)'에 출연, 토트넘이 자신을 영입하기 위해 노력했지만 인연을 맺지 못했다고 전했다.

비슷한 유스시절을 보낸 크라우치는 제라드가 데뷔하기 직전 토트넘과 경기에서 처음 만났다. 크라우치는 "박스 끝에서 때리고 볼은 다리 사이로 잘 다루고, 누군가를 때리고 크로스바를 때리는 한방을 쐈을 때 '잠깐, 얘는 뭐야?'라고 생각했다"면서 "나는 당시 토트넘 회장이던 앨런 슈가가 경기 후 당신과 함께 걸어나가던 것을 봤다"고 밝혔다.

이에 제라드는 "리버풀은 그 경기 후 내게 다른 종류의 계약을 제안하기 위해 상당히 빠르게 움직였다"고 말해 토트넘의 영입 제안이 있었다는 것을 암시했다. 그러자 크라우치는 "나도 몇년 동안 토트넘에 있었지만 슈가 회장과는 한 번도 이야기를 나누지 못했다"고 놀라워했다.

제라드는 앞서 2015년 출간한 두 번째 자서전 '마이 스토리'에서 토트넘의 제안이 있었다고 털어놓았다. 제라드는 2014-2015시즌을 끝으로 LA갤럭시로 이적했다. 

제라드는 "첫 제안은 베식타시(터키)를 이끌던 슬라벤 빌리치 감독이었고 AS모나코가 다음이었다. 그들은 아주 공격적으로 영입 제안을 했다. 파리 생제르맹(PSG)도 아주 가까웠다. 당시 레알 소시에다드 데이빗 모예스 감독은 여러 차례 에이전트에게 전화를 걸어 뛸 수 있는지 물었다"고 밝혔다.

특히 제라드는 "EPL 구단 몇 군데도 연락이 왔다. 하지만 리버풀을 상대로 경기를 하지 않을 생각이었다. 그 중에는 토트넘의 마우리시오 포체티노 감독도 있었다. 나를 여전히 평가해줬다는 것을 알게 돼 좋았다"면서도 "프리미어리그에서 1년 더 뛸 수 있다고 확신했지만 토트넘과 함께 해서 문제를 크게 일으키고 싶지는 않았다"고 설명했다.

[스포티비뉴스=한준 기자] 프리미어리그 복귀를 추진 중인 필리페 쿠티뉴에게 구체적인 관심을 보인 팀은 레스터 시티가 유일한 것으로 알려졌다.

영국 스카이스포츠의 패널로 오랫동안 활동한 스페인 축구 전문가 기옘 발라게는 자신의 유투브 채널을 통해 "쿠티뉴에게 관심을 보인 팀은 레스터 시티가 유일하다"고 했다.

이는 프리미어리그 팀 중에서의 얘기다. 2017-18시즌 도중 리버풀을 떠나 FC 바르셀로나로 이적한 쿠티뉴는 네이마르가 떠난 공백을 메우지 못했다. 무난한 플레이를 보이다 2019-20시즌에는 바이에른 뮌헨으로 임대됐다.

바이에른에서 준수한 활약을 보였지만 높은 몸값에 비해 효과가 크지 않다는 평가가 지배적이다. 쿠티뉴는 자신이 최전성기를 보낸 프리미어리그 무대 복귀를 원하는 것으로 알려졌다.

맨체스터 유나이티드, 아스널, 토트넘 홋스퍼 등이 쿠티뉴 영입에 관심이 있다는 영국 복수 매체의 보도가 있었지만 발라게는 레스터 시티가 유일하다고 했다. 발라게는 "쿠티뉴의 대리인은 프리미어리그 팀을 알아보고 있다"며 프리미어리그 무대를 선호한다는 사실은 맞다고 했다.

[OSEN=강필주 기자] 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)으로 큰 타격을 받은 이탈리아 축구가 리오넬 메시(33, 바르셀로나)가 가도 회복되기 힘들다는 주장이 나왔다. 

8일(한국시간) 영국 매체 '이브닝 스탠다드'에 따르면 하비에르 테바스 라리가 회장은 7일 세계 언론인과 가진 전화회의에서 "메시가 스페인에서 축구를 계속할지 말지는 모르겠다"면서 "메시가 스페인 축구를 떠나지는 않을 것이라 생각하지만 이탈리아 축구가 처한 위기에서 벗어날 수 있는 해결책은 아니다"라고 주장했다.

이탈리아 '라 가제타 델로 스포르트'는 이탈리아 세리에 A가 코로나19 사태로 입은 손실이 7억 유로에 달한다고 예상했다. 그러면서 인터밀란 전 회장의 주장대로 인터밀란이 메시를 영입하게 되면 세리에 A에 막대한 재정적 활력을 불어넣어 줄 수 있다고 주장했다. 

하지만 테바스 회장은 "이 글로벌 위기를 어떻게 보느냐에 따라 각국 상황은 다르다. 이탈리아 축구 부채 수준은 상당히 높다. 스페인, 분데스리가에 2배 수준"이라며 "분명한 해결책은 메시가 아니라는 것이다. 세리에 A는 다른 해결책을 찾으리라 본다. 각 구단마다 그 나름의 이야기가 있다"고 강조했다.

특히 테바스 회장은 2018년 크리스티아누 호날두(35, 유벤투스)가 레알 마드리드를 떠나 이탈리아로 간 것을 상기시켰다. 설사 메시가 바르셀로나를 떠난다 해도 사람들이 생각하는 것 만큼 라리가는 크게 달라지지 않을 것임을 강조한 것이다. 

그는 "물론 메시가 여기 있었으면 좋겠다. 하지만 메시가 스페인 축구에 있든 없든 크게 상관없다. 이미 호날두의 경우를 봐도 알 수 있다"면서 "자료를 제시하진 않겠다. 하지만 모두 시청률이 떨어질 것이라고 했지만 성장했다. 포르투갈에서조차 성장을 기록했다. 그런 선수 있으면 도움이 되지만 리그 성장에 꼭 필요한 것은 아니다"라고 강조했

‘황희찬 부상 공백을 메워야 했는데….’

하네스 울프 전 함부르크 SV 감독이 함부르크 지휘봉을 잡았던 2018-2019시즌을 돌아 보며, 그 당시 황희찬의 부상 공백을 메우지 못한 것에 대한 패착을 아쉬워했다.

현재 벨기에 명문 겡크를 이끌고 있는 울프 감독은 2018-2019시즌 도중 2. 분데스리가(2부리그)에 속해 있던 함부르크 지휘봉을 잡았다.

이에 대해 울프 감독은 8일(한국 시각) 독일 유력 언론 <스포르트 빌트>를 통해 “시작은 좋았다. 윈터 브레이크(겨울 휴식기)까지만 하더라도 우리는 선두에 있었다. 그러나 우리 팀은 어렸다. 그걸 고려하면 이적시장에서 두세 명의 선수는 더 영입했어야 했다. 황희찬과 아론 헌트의 부상으로 공격력에 큰 데미지를 입었기 때문이다”라며 과거를 후회했다.

황희찬은 함부르크에서 뛰던 2018-2019시즌 2. 분데스리가 20경기에 나서 네 개의 공격 포인트(2골 2도움)를 기록했다. 득점이 많진 않았지만 특유의 피지컬로 저돌성 있게 수비를 밀어 붙이며 상대 팀에 위협을 가했다.

스스로 해결하지 못하더라도 어떤 형태로든 주변 공격수에게 도움을 주었던 것이다. 울프 감독은 황희찬의 그 점에 아쉬움을 표한 듯하다. 그렇지만 울프 감독은 아이러니하게도 함부르크에서 지도자 데뷔 후 가장 높은 승률(14승 5무 9패, 50%)을 기록했다. 울프 감독은 보루시아 도르트문트 2군과 슈투트가르트, 함부르크를 거쳐 현재 겡크에서 선수를 지도하고 있다.

일본 "IOC도 올림픽 연기 추가 비용 부담해야"..IOC '글쎄'

신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 확산으로 올해 열기로 한 도쿄 하계올림픽이 2021년으로 연기되면서 추가 비용 문제가 '뜨거운 감자'로 떠올랐다.

도쿄올림픽의 4대 축인 국제올림픽위원회(IOC), 도쿄올림픽조직위원회, 도쿄도(都) 정부, 그리고 일본 정부 간의 추가 경비 분담 비율은 따로 정해지지 않았다.

올림픽이 연기된 건 124년 역사상 처음이다. 도쿄올림픽 당사자들이 연기를 가정해 추가 비용 분담률을 미리 정했을 가능성은 희박하다.

2일 교도통신에 따르면, 일본과 IOC는 추가 비용을 놓고 물 밑에서 힘겨루기를 하고 있다.

올림픽 1년 연기로 추가 부담해야 하는 비용은 최대 3천억엔(약 3조4천500억원)으로 추산된다. 경기장 재임대와 숙박 예약, 추가 인건비 등이 여기에 포함된다.

고이케 유리코 도쿄도 지사는 지난주 교도통신 인터뷰에서 "IOC에 추가 비용 분담을 요청할 작정"이라고 말했다.

모리 요시로 도쿄올림픽조직위원장도 지난달 TV에 출연해 "IOC도 책임을 져야 한다"며 고이케 지사와 보조를 맞췄다.

일본만 추가 비용을 감당하지 않겠다는 의지가 강하다.

도쿄올림픽조직위는 자연재해에 대비한 예비비로 270억엔(3천105억원)을 확보했지만, 올림픽 연기에 따른 예상 추가 비용에는 한참 못 미친다.

그러나 교도통신은 이 사안에 정통한 소식통을 인용해 IOC가 추가 비용 분담에 동의하지 않을 것 같다고 소개했다.

소식통은 "일본 정부의 요청에 IOC가 응답한 결과, 올림픽이 연기됐기에 IOC가 추가 비용을 책임질 리가 없다"고 교도통신에 전했다.

올림픽 연기는 3월 24일 아베 신조 일본 총리와 토마스 바흐 IOC 위원장 간의 전화 통화에서 결정됐다.

통화 후 아베 총리는 바흐 위원장에게 올림픽을 1년 정도 연기하는 방안을 검토해달라고 제안했고, 바흐 위원장도 이에 전면적으로 동의했다고 기자들에게 밝혔다.

'제안'과 '요청'으로 어감상 차이는 있지만, 일본 정부가 IOC에 올림픽 연기를 먼저 꺼낸 건 사실이다. 따라서 추가 비용의 책임은 전적으로 일본 몫이라는 게 IOC의 판단으로 보인다.

당시 IOC와 일본 정부 양측은 코로나19 확산에도 도쿄올림픽 정상 개최를 추진해 선수들과 각 나라의 비판을 자초했다. 외형상 일본 정부의 요청을 IOC가 수용해 올림픽을 1년 뒤로 미뤘다.

교도통신은 또 연기된 올림픽 일정이 확정됐지만, 메인프레스센터로 사용될 도쿄 빅 사이트, 레슬링 경기장인 도쿄국제포럼과 같은 경기장의 내년 대관 문제, 자원봉사자들의 내년 스케줄, 티켓 환불 정책 등 풀어야 할 난제가 많다고 지적했다.

크리스티아누 호날두(35, 유벤투스)에게 이탈리아 세리에A 첫 페널티킥 실축을 안겼던 스테파노 소렌티노(41) 전 키에보 베로나 골키퍼가 그와의 일화를 밝혔다.

소렌티노 골키퍼가 호날두를 침묵시킨 건 지난해 1월이다. 유벤투스와 원정 경기에 나섰던 소렌티노 골키퍼는 일방적인 수세 끝에 0-3으로 힘없이 무너졌다. 전력차를 실감한 소렌티노 골키퍼였으나 호날두에게 만큼은 판정승을 거뒀다.

당시 호날두는 유벤투스가 압도적인 승리를 거둔 상황에서도 단 한 개의 공격포인트를 올리지 못했다. 페널티킥 역시 행운이 따라주지 않았다. 후반 6분 페널티킥 키커로 나섰지만 소렌티노 골키퍼에게 완벽하게 가로막혔다.

결코 우연이 아니었다. 경기 후 도메니코 디 카를로 당시 키에보 감독은 "소렌티노가 골키퍼 코치와 함께 호날두를 연구했다. 왼쪽으로 뛰어 페널티킥을 막은 건 다 호날두를 분석했기에 가능했던 것"이라고 털어놨다.

라커룸에서는 또 다른 일도 있었다. 소렌티노 골키퍼는 호날두와 유니폼 교환을 약속했지만 정작 다른 선수와 바꿔야 했다. 페널티킥을 막은 것이 문제였다.

그는 '스카이스포츠'를 통해 "나와 호날두는 유니폼 교환에 동의했지만 마지막에 틀어졌다. 그는 라커룸으로 향하는 터널 안에서 내게 축하의 말과 악수는 건넸지만 기분이 나빠보였고 결국 유니폼을 받지 못했다"라며 "대신 다른 상이 있었다. 파올로 디발라의 유니폼을 얻었다"라고 웃어보였다.
